Marina Vergara (she/her) joins the OFRF group because the Fall 2023 Analysis and Schooling intern. Marina is a graduate scholar on the College of California, Davis learning Worldwide Agricultural Growth. Her pursuits lie in exploring participatory agricultural extension and methods to higher assist marginalized farmers. Her analysis examines a participatory silvopastoral extension program in Panama, and the methods during which this mannequin facilitates a casual data trade amongst mannequin farmers and farmers newly getting into this system.
Marina found her ardour for meals and agriculture in faculty after being drawn to the interdisciplinary nature of meals techniques. After graduating from Cornell College in 2018 with a BS in Environmental and Sustainability Sciences, Marina moved to Panama to serve with the U.S. Peace Corps as an Agriculture Extension Agent, working with small-scale, natural cacao farmers in product growth, advertising and marketing, and gross sales. Marina then served with AmeriCorps VISTA in South Texas, the place she targeted on coalition constructing for rising meals safety and youth curriculum growth for meals justice and sovereignty within the Rio Grande Valley.
Marina is obsessed with supporting marginalized farmers, via collaboration in initiatives and rising fairness in entry to extension assist and supplies.
